The Nasdaq 100 Index preliminarily rose about 1%, with component stocks GlobalFoundries, Broadcom, AMD, Microchip Technology, NVIDIA, Intel, Qualcomm, Lam Research, and KLA all rising at least 2% to lead the way, while Arm Holdings fell 4%, and "Bitcoin whale" MicroStrategy dropped 8.5%.
The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index preliminarily rose about 3%.
The S&P 500 Index preliminarily rose 0.7%, with the telecommunications sector up 1.4%, the technology sector up 1.2%, and the healthcare sector up 1.1%
