Trump claims: I understand interest rates better than Federal Reserve Chairman Powell

U.S. President Trump questioned Federal Reserve Chairman Powell's interest rate decisions and stated that he intends to "talk to him at the appropriate time." "I think I understand interest rates much better than they do, and I certainly think I understand much more than the person primarily responsible for making the decisions," Trump said on Thursday in the Oval Office, apparently referring to Powell. "If I have a different opinion, I will let everyone know." When asked if he believes Federal Reserve officials will listen to his opinions, Trump replied, "Yes." The Federal Reserve will hold its next monetary policy meeting in Washington on January 28-29, currently in the Fed's quiet period. (Bloomberg)
