Jensen Huang: AI leaders should avoid spreading panic, optimistic that Anthropic's revenue will exceed one trillion by 2030
Jensen Huang warned that leaders in the tech industry should be cautious when discussing AI risks to avoid causing panic. He believes that the greatest risk of AI comes from societal fear and paranoia, rather than the technology itself. At the same time, he is optimistic about the business prospects of the AI startup Anthropic, predicting that its revenue will exceed $1 trillion by 2030, and considers CEO Dario Amodei's forecast to be overly conservative. Jensen Huang emphasized that reasonable risk warnings are necessary, but intimidation is unhelpful
Jensen Huang warned that leaders in the tech industry must be cautious in discussing AI risks, and should not turn reasonable risk warnings into baseless panic.
On March 19, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, when asked how the AI startup Anthropic could better handle its contract dispute with the U.S. Department of Defense, stated:
We want to remind people of the potential risks of this technology. Warnings are good, but intimidation is not, because this technology is too important to us.
In a subsequent panel discussion released in podcast form, Huang acknowledged Anthropic's mission and safety philosophy, but candidly pointed out that the industry tends to exaggerate when expressing AI risks.
He noted that the core logic supporting his position is: the greatest AI risk to U.S. national security does not come from the technology itself, but from the slowdown in AI adoption due to anger, fear, or paranoia in American society.
Huang said:
It is not a biological entity, not an alien species, and it has no consciousness; it is computer software. Making those extreme, catastrophic assertions without any supporting evidence can cause harm that may be deeper than people realize.
At the same time, Huang expressed optimism about Anthropic's business prospects, predicting that the company's revenue could exceed $1 trillion by 2030, and he believes CEO Dario Amodei's forecasts are overly conservative.
Strong Support for Anthropic, Revenue Could Reach Trillion by 2030
Despite Anthropic being embroiled in disputes with the government, Huang has not diminished his view of its business potential.
He stated in the discussion that he believes Anthropic's annual revenue could exceed $1 trillion by 2030, adding that Amodei has always been conservative in his predictions.
This indicates that Huang maintains high confidence in the core business value of Anthropic, contrasting sharply with the current political controversies surrounding the company.
Wall Street Journal mentioned that Anthropic is vigorously fighting the U.S. Department of Defense's designation of it as a "national security supply chain risk" through legal means.
It is reported that the root of the conflict lies in Amodei's insistence on explicitly prohibiting the use of its products for surveillance of U.S. citizens and the development of fully autonomous weapon systems in the contract.
The Trump administration reacted strongly to these demands: designating Anthropic as a supply chain risk and initiating efforts to remove it from various government projects. Anthropic has since filed a lawsuit, and the standoff between the two parties continues.
Anthropic is an important client of NVIDIA and the developer of the Claude series of chatbots.
