Anthropic is considering a new funding round that would value the company at over $900 billion, potentially making it the world's most valuable AI unicorn. The company has not accepted any offers yet, and discussions remain in the early stages. Google and Amazon have previously invested in Anthropic, injecting $10 billion and $5 billion respectively at a $350 billion valuation. Founded by former OpenAI employees, Anthropic has developed multiple AI tools and plans to launch an IPO as early as October

On Wednesday local time, media outlets cited sources familiar with the matter, revealing that Anthropic has begun weighing a new funding round that would value the company at over $900 billion. This move could see it surpass its long-time rival OpenAI to become the world's most highly valued AI unicorn.

Anthropic is evaluating proposals from investors. If the fundraising succeeds, the valuation would more than double its current level. Relevant discussions are still in the very early stages, and the company has not accepted any offers.

Media reports had previously indicated that Anthropic rejected several unsolicited funding proposals from investors valuing the company at $800 billion or higher.

This development comes as Anthropic accelerates its fundraising efforts, leveraging the strong momentum of its AI software breakthroughs. Earlier media reports stated that Anthropic is considering launching an initial public offering (IPO) as early as October this year. The company is currently actively seeking additional infrastructure to meet the growing demand for its products.

Anthropic declined to comment on the matter.

Google recently committed to investing $10 billion in Anthropic at a $350 billion valuation, consistent with the valuation of its February funding round this year. Google plans to invest up to an additional $30 billion after Anthropic achieves specific performance targets. Amazon also invested $5 billion in Anthropic at a $350 billion valuation and plans to inject another $20 billion over time. It remains unclear whether these two companies will participate in this new funding round.

Founded in 2021 by a group of former OpenAI employees, Anthropic has since risen to the forefront of the AI sector. The company has developed a series of AI tools aimed at disrupting how enterprises handle various tasks, ranging from programming to cybersecurity.

In early April this year, Anthropic released a new model named Mythos, which reportedly can detect and exploit vulnerabilities in various critical software systems. Anthropic deemed the model too risky for public release and currently allows only a few companies to begin testing it on their own systems. However, media reports indicate that a small number of unauthorized users have already accessed the model.
