Needham: Meta downplays the open-source Llama strategy, self-developed AI models may enhance monetization capabilities
Needham pointed out that Meta is shifting from the open-source Llama strategy to self-developed AI models (such as Muse Image) to optimize consumer interaction and advertising business. This transition is expected to enhance user engagement time and return on advertising spend (ROAS), strengthening the platform's commercialization capabilities and allowing Meta to benefit from the AI wave
According to Zhitong Finance APP, Needham stated that as Meta Platforms (META.US) launches the AI image generation model Muse Image, the company is gradually shifting from the open-source Llama model to its self-developed AI models that are more suitable for consumer interaction and advertising business. This transition is expected to further enhance its commercialization capabilities.
Meta released Muse Image on Tuesday and previewed the upcoming Muse Video. These are among the first media generation models developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs. Muse Image can transform multiple photos into high-quality image works through advanced reasoning capabilities and supports users in sharing across multiple platforms. Previously, Meta Superintelligence Labs launched the Muse Spark model in April.
Needham analyst Laura Martin's team stated that Muse Image will support Instagram, WhatsApp, Meta AI, and future creative tools for advertisers, indicating that this product is expected to bring more commercialization opportunities to Meta in the short term.
The team pointed out that the most noteworthy aspect of Meta's new product is that the company seems to be shifting from the open-source Llama model to self-developed AI models, optimizing these models for consumer interaction and advertising scenarios. This helps to increase user engagement time while improving advertisers' return on ad spend (ROAS).
Needham believes that stronger image generation capabilities will help advertisers and creators produce content more efficiently, thereby enhancing platform interaction and advertising effectiveness, making Meta a beneficiary of AI technology development rather than a party replaced by the AI wave.
As Muse Image integrates into Meta's core social and advertising ecosystem, AI-generated content will further blend into products like Instagram, WhatsApp, and Meta AI. If the related features can effectively enhance user engagement and advertising conversion rates, Meta is expected to occupy a more favorable position in the AI commercialization competition
