Intel announced the launch of a €5 billion (approximately $5.7 billion) investment to expand the Fab 34 factory in Leixlip, Ireland. This move aims to increase the production capacity of Intel's 3 process Xeon processors to meet the demands of AI and high-performance computing, as well as enhance wafer foundry delivery capabilities. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027 and will create hundreds of new jobs locally, marking a key step in Intel's manufacturing restructuring and AI strategy

Intel announced on Monday that it has launched a capital investment plan worth €5 billion (approximately $5.7 billion) to expand its Fab 34 factory located in Leixlip, near Dublin, Ireland. This move aims to increase the production capacity of the Xeon 6 and next-generation Xeon server processors using Intel's 3 process technology, in order to meet the growing global demand for AI and high-performance computing.

This investment is seen as a key step in Intel's restructuring of its manufacturing network and expansion of its AI strategy. In April of this year, Intel spent $14.2 billion to repurchase the 49% stake in Fab 34 that it had previously sold to Apollo Global Management, regaining full control of this critical manufacturing asset. The Executive Vice President of Intel's foundry business stated that this investment will not only enhance the output of key products but is also part of a plan to improve delivery capabilities for foundry customers.

The project is expected to create hundreds of new jobs in Ireland. The Irish Prime Minister stated in a statement that this expansion "is a strong vote of confidence in Ireland at a time of global competition." Since entering Ireland in 1989, Intel has invested over €30 billion and currently employs approximately 4,900 people in the country. Most of the investment for this expansion plan is expected to be completed by the end of 2027
