Google "lands" in the Latin American digital economy! Adds three new submarine cable systems connecting Chile, Panama, and other countries

Google announced the laying of three new submarine cable systems, Alisios, Canoa, and OlaLuz, in the Americas, connecting the Dominican Republic, Panama, Chile, Bermuda, and the United States. This move aims to strengthen the digital economy infrastructure in Latin America, helping countries like Chile and Panama build digital hubs and promote regional economic growth and digital integration

According to Zhitong Finance APP, Google (GOOGL.US) announced on Tuesday that it will lay three new submarine cable systems in the Americas—Alisios, Canoa, and OlaLuz. According to the press release, Alisios will connect the Dominican Republic, Panama, and Chile; Canoa will connect the Dominican Republic with Bermuda; and OlaLuz will connect the Dominican Republic with Florida, USA.

Chile is striving to establish itself as a digital hub in its region, attracting technology companies with its economic and political stability, extensive fiber optic networks, submarine cables, and abundant renewable energy. In addition to the newly added Alisios submarine cable, ongoing projects include the Humboldt submarine cable supported by Google, which will cross the Pacific Ocean to connect Chile and Australia.

Chile's Minister of Transport and Telecommunications and Minister of Public Works, Louis de Grange, stated in a statement, "This will further consolidate our country's position as a leader in the digital field in Latin America." He noted that the Alisios submarine cable "will undoubtedly drive local business development, promote economic growth, and bring opportunities from the global digital economy directly into the homes of millions of Chileans."

Panama's President José Raúl Mulino stated that the project will support Panama's Digital Hub Initiative and create opportunities for Panama and the broader region. The President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, stated that this collaboration will help advance the country's digital integration
