BABA Return Rate💎MAS to tighten monetary policy to combat coming inflation.
The forecast for core and headline inflation was raised to 1.5 to 2.5 per cent, from 1 to 2 per cent previously. (Source :CNA, 14 April 2026)
👍 Pros: Stronger SGD curbs imported inflation, protects your purchasing power, and keeps MAS credible.
👎 Cons: Slower growth, pricier exports, and pressure on local businesses. Hot money inflows could also fuel asset bubbles.
Unlike rate hikes, MAS uses the exchange rate as its main tool. The borrowing costs will not spike like in the US. This is the trade-off between fighting inflation and supporting growth remains.
Bottom line: Good for price stability, tough for exporters.
