🦎 IGGY MORNING BRIEF, 19 AUGUST 2026

☕ Good morning, Iguanas. SGX opens at 9 am SGT. Wall Street has now logged three straight down days, and Singapore followed yesterday.

OVERNIGHT US SUMMARY

Wall Street fell again Tuesday. Dow slipped 0.22 percent to 53,343.40. S&P 500 dropped 0.69 percent to 7,691.76, its worst day since late July. Nasdaq declined 1.33 percent to 26,289.71. Broad tech selling led losses, with Meta and Microsoft weaker as the 10 year Treasury yield climbed to 4.74 percent. A chip sector pullback added pressure.

Brent crude rose to a three week high near 91 US dollars after Washington said it is not in talks with Iran over the Strait of Hormuz. VIX edged up to 15.25.

For SGX, the oil and rate combination matters most. This looks like a genuine multi day risk off stretch, not a one day wobble.

SGX PRE-OPEN PULSE

STI fell 1.16 percent to 5,701.40, led by banks and blue chips. DBS down 1.51 percent, OCBC down 1.90 percent, Keppel down 1.65 percent, Hongkong Land down 2.91 percent.

The pattern holds: banks leading the regional pullback. USD/SGD at 1.2782.

IGGY'S GAME PLAN

Three down days in the US and Singapore following the same script. Banks and blue chips are leading the move on oil and rates. I treat this as a real multi day de-rating worth tracking.

No change to yield discipline. I want to see if banks stabilise over the next few sessions before reacting to any bounce or drop.
