In September, the wholesale volume of India's auto market experienced a slight decline for the third consecutive month, dropping 1.1% year-on-year to 358,879 units. Year-to-date, the Indian auto market has seen a 4.3% increase in sales, reaching a record 3,216,747 units.
Among Chinese automakers, MG performed well, with monthly sales of 4,588 units and cumulative sales of 40,600 units.

Brands in the Indian Auto Market
By brand:
● Maruti Suzuki continues to lead with a 40.4% market share, but sales fell by 3.9%.
● Hyundai holds a 14.2% market share, with sales down 5.8%.
● Mahindra was the standout performer this month, with sales up 23.7% year-on-year, surpassing the 50,000-unit mark for the first time to reach 51,062 units, breaking the previous record of 43,708 units set in October last year. Mahindra's sales were just 39 units shy of Hyundai's.
● Tata Motors saw an 8.4% decline in sales, ranking fourth.
● Toyota and Kia posted stable growth of 7.4% and 17.5%, respectively.
● Other brands generally underperformed, with Honda, Jeep, Skoda, and Nissan seeing sales declines of 42.5%, 24.1%, 18.1%, and 13.9%, respectively.

Models in the Indian Auto Market
Top-selling models:
● The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, with a 28.9% growth rate, claimed the top spot for the month despite a decline in sales compared to August.
● The Maruti Suzuki Swift ranked first in annual sales this year but has dropped to 7th place year-to-date in 2024. This month, it rose five spots to take 2nd place, ahead of the Hyundai Creta(up 25%). The August leader, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, fell to 4th place this month but maintained positive year-on-year growth.
● The Mahindra Scorpio, with a 21.9% growth rate, entered the top 5 for the first time but did not break its sales record.
● The Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Eeco, and Tata Punch also performed well, maintaining their top positions year-to-date but ranking 8th this month.
● The Mahindra XUV700 and Thar, boosted by the new Roxx model, both set new sales records this month.
These figures reflect the intense competition among brands and models in the Indian auto market, as well as the diversity of consumer preferences.
