Tomorrow $SK Hynix(SKHY.US)'s US IPO is happening. For the past two days, all major communities have been hyping it up, and the buzz is shockingly high. There's no denying that Hynix is indeed a good company, making a killing by selling high-end memory to NVIDIA. But as an old, seasoned investor who's been burned before, I plan to just grab a small stool and watch the show unfold tomorrow.

Why?

First, the semiconductor sectors in both the US and Korean stock markets have been pulling back recently, and the overall environment feels a bit jittery.

Second, on the first day of a new stock listing, the price of its US ADR is bound to be wildly speculated on by capital, easily leading to excessive premiums. Jumping in recklessly could mean getting stuck holding the bag right away. It's not easy for us retail investors to make money, so there's no need to rush in at the first minute and go head-to-head with hot money.

My strategy is: wait for the market to open tomorrow, first see how big the price gap is with the Korean parent stock, and let this wave of frenzy play out for a bit. If it later drops and forms a golden opportunity, then we can go in and bottom-fish. Wouldn't that be better?
