Trump stated that given the 'severe divisions' within the Iranian government, the U.S. has decided to extend the ceasefire until Iran submits a unified negotiation proposal and completes negotiations. During this period, the U.S. military will continue to enforce a naval blockade on Iran while maintaining a state of military readiness

At the final moments before the ceasefire countdown ended, the dynamics of U.S.-Iran negotiations took a dramatic turn.

After market close on Tuesday (Eastern Time), according to CCTV News, U.S. President Trump posted on his social media platform stating that, at the request of the Pakistan Army Chief of Staff and the Prime Minister, the U.S. would temporarily suspend military strikes against Iran.

CCTV reported that Trump said, given the "severe divisions" within the Iranian government, the U.S. has decided to extend the ceasefire deadline and requires Iran to first submit a unified negotiation proposal. During this period, the U.S. military will continue to impose a naval blockade on Iran while maintaining a state of military readiness. The ceasefire will remain in effect until Iran submits its proposal and completes negotiations—"regardless of the outcome."

Trump's post read:

"Given the severe internal divisions within the Iranian government," the U.S. is responding to the requests of Pakistani Army Chief Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz to "suspend offensive operations against Iran until its leaders and representatives can present a unified proposal. Therefore, I have directed our military to maintain the blockade. In all other respects, the armed forces must remain on high alert and combat readiness."

"In light of this, the ceasefire deadline will be extended until the opposing side submits its proposal and completes relevant consultations—regardless of the final outcome."

The United States and Iran initiated a two-week ceasefire at Beijing time on April 8, set to expire late on April 22 (Eastern Time). Last week, reports emerged suggesting that both sides were considering extending the ceasefire, with the two nations agreeing in principle to do so, though neither official side confirmed the details. Until Monday, Trump had stated that if no agreement was reached between the U.S. and Iran, there was "almost no chance" of extending the ceasefire.
