Taiwan is facing its worst drought 75-years in the western half (most of population, entire semiconductor industry), media report. Premier Cho Jung-tai said the government’s goal is to avoid water rationing for industry and households before end-June. Taiwan’s thirsty semiconductor manufacturing is all in the west, and Hsinchu, the Silicon Valley of Taiwan, is the most-affected area so far, while Taichung’s water situation is being monitored. A pipeline project (2017-now) has already connected many of Taiwan’s reservoirs, including the Shimen Reservoir (Taoyuan) to Hsinchu, which is providing relief to the Hsinchu Science Park.
